I’ll start by saying that hi! My name is Ashley, and I was the Vriska with the 8 Ball running the shoot with Alex, the Terezi.

It was great seeing all of you!

But you bet your ass i’ll be going through that panel schedule with a fine tooth comb and if there is a single thing that isn’t Japanese on there I will calmly go up the ladder until I find the head honcho who chooses panels and piss on everything they love.

And by piss on everything they love I mean calmly talk with them through professional e-mails or even face to face conversations asking why this was chosen when a panel that would have been hugely popular was not and politely ask they reconsider these things for next year.　

It’s really hard and complicated to form out a good opinion for this whole Otakon blueballing Homestuck thing.

On one hand, you have the obvious fact that Otakon is a convention that specializes in japanese anime, manga and video games. They have every right to accept or deny any panel they want to keep that theme. There is literally nothing you can do to stop that.

On the other hand, you have the fact that it’s one of the biggest conventions on the east coast, and we’re estimating numbers well over 500 for Homestuck cosplayers and fans. This number has been brought to the Otakon panel board’s attention multiple times, a few times by myself personally.

When you have a group that large all wanting the same thing, it’s just good business to at least throw them a god damn bone. I understand not taking all of the panels submitted because I personally know of four that were turned in, and there were probably even more past that. But not even one?

Which brings me to another point, which is everyone screaming “get your Homestuck out of my anime convention!” I know this is a point a lot of anti-Homestuck parties on the internet bring up. The problem is that, most Homestuck cosplayers got started cosplaying from anime. I know that for me, personally, Homestuck is the first non-japanese cosplay ive done. These conventions are all we know, and to be honest, there are very few and considerably less conventions dedicated to comic books or a mix than there are anime and japanese culture. And those conventions, most of the time, either don’t have any big emphasis on fan panels or pale in comparison to how fucking amazing Otakon is (See: Megacon).

For a lot of us, Otakon is the convention we look forward to most every year, because it’s by far the largest. It’s one of the only large cons I go to. There aren’t many equivalents for comic books or a comic/japan mix, if any. And this year a sudden shift happened for a lot of fans like me. We went from having tons of panels for our old fandoms to attend and participate in, to zero. Outright, flat, denied.

So it’s okay for everyone to feel pretty victimized here. With conventions like the one i’m going to this weekend, the Florida Anime Experience which is a dinky little convention in a small con center, no one really makes a fuss when they strictly say “NOTHING BUT ANIME” but when it’s Otakon, when it’s such an irreplaceable convention that people travel from across the country to go to (I’m in Florida, it’s gonna be a trek), it hurts. And it sucks. And it makes you angry.

And people have every right to be angry, even if there’s nothing they can do about it.

I feel like Hussie may be writing uu and UU to actually be representations of the fandom.

Although that’s more than likely not their soul purpose, but they may be his little way of poking fun at us.

I mean think about it UU is sweet, writes fanfiction and draws fanart of the kids, and her work is even drawn by an actual fan of the comic (wecansexy).

And then uu is the angry one who gets pissed about everything but recently he demanded porn, which is another faction of the fandom, and something Hussie is very aware of.

It’s pretty cool.
